I know what you are thinking, sis 2020 was 2 years ago...
hear me out though, in order to understand where we are going you have to know where we came from. So, buckle up grab your favorite wine (don't act like wine club subscriptions didn't skyrocket in 2020) and let's take a trip down memory lane, one more thing don't forget to grab your mask you need that lol.
What 2020 taught me…
It was another regular year, right? I had created a vision board with my friends, and I was ready to conquer the world. Probably take a few detours but still accomplish MY goals.
I remember at the beginning of 2020 there was a bunch of "swirl" in the news about Covid-19. I'm not going to lie, I down played the severity. There is no way this fake news was going to make the world stop *Beyoncé voice*. Boy was I WRONG.
I shifted to working remotely in March of 2020. You would think one would be happy about this, but this wasn’t on my "goals" this year. How would I adapt to homeschooling my children? Working remotely and knowing when to cut it off now that I'm not in the office.
Being locked in my house only able to go out to exercise and get food! I mean I wanted to be physically fit but I really meant I wanted to fit dis pizza roll in my mouth. Whew, March hit me like a whirlwind!
It took me a while to maneuver through this new normal everyone kept saying but it didn’t feel normal it felt hella uncomfortable. Eventually I got the hang of it and I would like to share some of my most life changing moments from 2020 with you.
Things that I did to shift my perspective during Covid-19
1. Listened to podcast and YouTube more often for self development: to name a few of my favorites "Unlocking Us with Brene Brown", "Super Soul Conversations with Oprah Winfrey", "God Centered Success with Mia Rene"
2. Investing in community: in a remote world it felt different but we still managed to give back to our community by volunteering with our church but following the CDC guidelines.
3.Fitness community: this was one of the best things I did, I gained the Rona 15-20ish pounds but with a group of motivated women who loved to trash talk just as much as I do, we rallied together and created random competitions to keep each other on track with our goals. This included some keto plans, as well as virtual workouts to accommodate everyone. I lost those Rona 15 and I plan to keep it off this time!
4. Audible instead of Music: in the midst of this Covid madness, I lost my wits one time and cancelled Apple Music. What a terrible mistake, I was only gone for about a mere week before I came crawling back to the luxuries of no ads. I also learned that in my spare time it was more productive for me to learn while I was doing dreaded laundry or dishes. I would pop on an Audible and soak in different perspectives.
5. DND Day: For Lent in 2020 I adopted DND on Sunday's and would not interact with family or friends from 8am-5pm. I took this time to connect with God, rest, and recharge. At first it was SO hard, I thought "what if people don't understand" but I learned this was a true definition of filling my cup before I could fill others. Over the 6 weeks it became easier, and there are still times I use this option to this day to take a pause and not be so overly stimulated by the feeling of being "in the know" or unproductive screen time.
I know that 2020 was a tough year for many who suffered loss of loved ones, unemployment, loss of their home. I do not for one moment disregard that this year has been different journey for many people in many ways. I pray that this short blurb gives you some encouragement to try something new in your "new normal" that may be beneficial
to you.
If you do, please come back and share what you did and how it made you feel in the comments below. If you have books you want to suggest drop them below also. It takes a village and now apparently a vaccine. I get making a lasting first impression but 2020, what the french toast???
Love this concept! I was actually excited to keep reading what was next!! The humor sprinkled within some really good reflections and tips on how to navigate through unexpected circumstances. Thanks for sharing! Once again, you have inspired me to ‘Just Do It’! PSA: not just saying it because you are my daughter. I am your biggest fan! Love you 4Eva! MuVa
